UC Santa Cruz Arboretum

A couple of weeks ago, I got a chance to wander through the UC Santa Cruz Arboretum. They have an incredible collection of plants from all over the world, many of which were in bloom. One of my favorites was the plant that produced this incredible flower. While the photo gives no sense of scale, this flower was at least six inches in diameter, probably even closer to eight or nine inches. It wasn’t labeled, but I suspect it is something in the thistle family, although I am very far from a plant expert. If you ever find yourself in Santa Cruz, the arboretum is definitely worth a visit!
